Preserving and using the dehydrator
Finally our kitchen is becoming much more usable as we are still renovating it. Our goal is to make it usable and in the meantime upgrade it when possible and when we want to. Also one of the goals is to add a solar power outlet to it. To use the solar power bank when full and also to use solar power when the sun in shining. And so we want to see how much our dehydrator is using from our solar power.
I have used the dehydrator before and it is a really easy to use one. Since i have a lot of cherryplumes from the garden, it is too much to eat them now. So a part i have saved in the fridge and another batch is now going in the dehydrator. Then it will become really tasty sweet flavor flakes you can use in cakes or in breakfast cereals.
Book findings
I (Kim) like all kind of books related to homesteading or how to preserve or what to do with the garden, how to build things yourself to what to see and find in nature. Even if those are old books, even better. I love them so when we went to a brocante market i found 2 books. And yes since we are living in France, the books we have found are in french. I think you can also find some English books here, but most of them
are French.
But anyway I wanted to buy them because it’s good for me to learn French. I have found a book about peaches. I think we have a couple of peach trees in the garden but they are not really maintained. So this book will be a good guide to help trees and see what to do. It will be a bit of a challenge to read everything. But it seems to be easy written and also had a lot of images here, drawings, so yeah I think I will be studying this and see if I can do some maintenance to the trees.
And next to that I have another book. Well I like thick books as well you can see. And also i like the images on the cover and inside the book. I like the really old pictures from I think 40 years ago. It reminds me of my childhood when you had that kind of an image of the garden and the setting of it.
It’s also one thing on my list, to make flower beds like shown on the cover. I’m complete noob with everything regarding flowers, so maybe there’s also something in there as well. Because this is all kind of the “Practical things for gardening”. It has a map inside the book with the map of France and what climate you are in and what to expect during the seasons here.
I really love them and since I’m building my library and I need a lot more books. This will be one of the books that will sure fit in there! And i cannot wait to have a nice and cozy library room ready to read a book and our cats are snoozing next to me.
